1.France 3 Switzerland 3

the best match of the 2020 Euros, this match was enthralling and dramatic from the minute one until the last minute of extra time.Switzerland, despite being the underdogs, scored first through Harris Seferovic and kept France at bay for the rest of the first half.In the second half, the game exploded in the span of a few minutes.Switzerland had a golden chance to double the lead when Benjamin Pavard conceded a penalty inside the box but to France's relief, the penalty taker Ricardo Rodriguez missed and France quickly scored two goals in two minutes through Karim Benzema and put Switzerland on the back foot for long periods as they searched for a third goal, which duly arrived when Paul Pogba curled in a fantastic shot from over 25 yards right into the top corner past Swiss Keeper Yans Sommer. It all seemed set and done until Switzerland scored a second out of nothing through Harris Seferovic, his second of the game, to bring Switzerland right into the tie.Gavranovic would equalise for the Swiss side but it would be disallowed for offside. It didn't matter anyway as he would get another chance, this time right on the edge of the area after a Granit Xhaka pass and he would score past French Keeper Hugo Lloris to tie the game up.France controlled proceedings in extra time and had chances to score through Giroud and Mbappe but they all missed and the tie went to a penalty shootout which the Switzerland managed to win and knock the French side out after Mbappe missed the final spot kick.

2. Spain 0 Italy 2

Italy came into this match as the underdogs whilst Spain were the heavy favourites. This was their second consecutive meeting in the Euros after Euro 2012 where Italy were thrashed by Spain in the final.Even though they had decline to a certain degree, they were still considered formidable.Italy started well and with their full backs Mattia de Sciglio and Alessandro Florenzi, they caused havoc throughout the match so it was no surprise when they drew first blood through Giorgio Chiellini after a Corner routine.Italy were really taking the match to Spain and David De Gea made several outstanding saves as Italy upped the ante during the first half.In the second half, Spain established a degree of control although Italy were still comfortable and forced De Gea into another outstanding save when he denied Eder after being put through on goal.Spain finally started to build pressure as the second half went on and forced Buffon into saves from Andres Iniesta and Gerard Pique. In the closing stages, Spain would have a golden chance to equalise when Pique had a chance to score from just a few yards out but he was superbly denied by Buffon and Italy scored a second goal in added time through Graziano Pelle after he raced through on goal and finished emphatically to end Spain's hopes of qualifying to the next round.

3.Portugal 2 Germany 4

a classic clash of two European Heavyweights, this match pitted an ageing Portugal team against a younger but more inexperienced German sided in a bid for knockout qualification.Despite being the dominant side in the opening minutes, Germany went behind when Cristiano Ronaldo scored first after a fast break. But Germany would turn the tide around and score two quick goals when Portugal Defenders Ruben Dias and Raphael Guerreiro put the ball into their own nets to give Germany a deserved lead heading into half time.In the second half Germany would score a third through a Kai Havertz tap in and would add fourth through Germany's best player and the game's outstanding performer, Robin Gosens. That was not all as despite conceding four goals, Portugal still managed to pull another goal back when the poacher supreme Digo Jota scored from a Ronaldo cut back.Despite pushing for a third goal for much of the second half, the closest they would get to scoring was when Renato Sanchez hit the post from the edge of the area as Germany successfully held on for three points.
