HAS PEP GUARDIOLA MADE THE PREMIER LEAGUE A BORING LEAGUE ?

 


Out of the Past 6 seasons, Pep Guardiola has won the League 5 out of 6 times and is currently in pole position to win a 6th title in 7 seasons. Some fans and critics have accused Pep Guardiola of monopolizing the Premier League and making it 'boring' but is that really the case ? well, let's find out.

Pep Guardiola has been a manager for 16 seasons. Out of those 16 seasons, he has won the League 13 times. In 4 years at Barca, he won 3 league titles, he won the League title in all his seasons as a Bayern Munich Manager and has won 5 out of 7 League titles since moving to Man City in 2016.In his entire managerial career he has only failed to win a league title in 3 seasons, two of which have happened as a Man City manager and besides, not all his Premier League Title wins have been easy and simple.


Twice in the Premier League, they were pushed all the way until the last match of the season by Liverpool in order to win, and both times they barely managed to win the title, beating Liverpool by 1 point in each of those seasons to win. Even last season, Arsenal were on top for almost the entire season and were the far more likely winners and there were times in those seasons where it seemed that Man City were not even in the title race only for a late run of wins and a late season collapse by Arsenal helped them win the League.

A lot of people also accuse Man City of having broken several financial fair play rules in order to sign quality players which enables them to unfairly dominate the League. Clubs like Arsenal, Chelsea, Man Utd and Tottenham Hotspurs also have access to huge amount of funds which helps them to sign high quality players. As a matter of fact, Man City's City rivals, Man Utd, have outspent them in the last decade but have far less success when compared to Man City during this span.

Man City's dominance has to do more with the fact that Pep Guardiola is a serial winner wherever he goes and that is the way it ought to be looked at but not that he has made the Premier League boring. If let's say he goes to the Serie A, he would win just as many Serie A titles as he has won in the Premier League without breaking a sweat and he is not even the first manager to dominate the Premier League.Sir Alex Ferguson won 13 Premier League Titles in just 21 Seasons but nobody ever accused him of monopolising the League.
