HOW CARLO ANCELLOTTI HAS GUIDED REAL MADRID TO A NEAR PERFECT SEASON
Real Madrid are currently in their best run of form since the 2016 2017 season. They are currently leading the pack and are 11 points clear in La liga, are in the Semis of the Champions League and have already won the Supercopa De Espana (Spanish Supercup). How has Ancellotti managed this, especially with injuries to crucial players in the main team. Let's delve into it.
Playing to the strengths of the players- with the absence of important players in the team, there were skeptics who thought that Real Madrid would have a bad season and besides that, there was pressure on Carlo Ancelotti to deliver following the previous season which produced mixed results for the club.Without a striker, without their main goalkeeper and without their First Choice Centre backs for much of the Season, Ancelotti has been able to effectively utilize less favoured players(Nacho, Lucas Vazquez) along with new players (Jude Bellingham) and players returning from loan (Brahim Diaz) by playing a system which gets the best out of the players. Besides, his man-management of the players has ensured that the egos in the dressing room doesn't get out of hand.
His Ability to tactically adapt against other teams- Carlo Ancellotti used a diamond 442 formation during the early stages of the season, a formation which makes central penetration difficult for opposition teams and allows the players to quickly link up with each other to create dangerous situations in the opposition team's attacking third but the downside side is that this formation leaves lots of space out wide for teams to exploit and it was heavily exposed by Atletico Madrid during their 3-1 win over Real Madrid they constantly troubled the defense by using the space on the flanks throughout the game. After this game, Ancellotti stopped using the formation and successfully implemented 4-2-3-1 formation which can be used for possession-based football or a counter attacking football, provides defensive solidity, limits space in the middle and wide areas for opposition teams to exploit. For example, in their tie against Man City,Ancellotti knew that Real Madrid couldn't go toe to toe with Man City possession wise so he used a counter attacking approach using this formation which secured a draw in both games and led to a penalty shootout which Real Madrid won.
Currently, Real Madrid are unbeaten in over 25 games in the League, haven't lost in the League in 7 months, haven't lost at all in any competition in almost 4 months and are currently on the hunt for a Champions League and La Liga double.
