IS NICHOLAS JACKSON A PROBLEM AT CHELSEA? A DETAILED ANALYSIS

 

Nicholas Jackson is a polarizing figure not only among the Chelsea Supporters but also among football fans in general.On the one hand he is pacy, can stretch opposition defences with his runs and is adept at getting himself into good positions.On the hand he has difficulty finishing chances and is often indecisive around the opposition penalty area.He has been massively criticized for his wastefulness in front of goal, having one of the lowest conversion rate among Europe's top strikers and other the hand, he has managed to rack up 13 goals in his debut season and he has proven to be a big threat to opposition defences so is Nicholas Jackson really a problem or does the problem lie much deeper underneath ?


IIt has more to do with the team than with Nicholas Jackson.Nicholas Jackson has scored more goals than even Didier Drogba managed in his debut season and the season hasn't even ended yet which means that he could add more goals to his tally but unlike him, Drogba didn't come under massive criticism and a matter of fact, Drogba wouldn't hit the 20 goal mark until his third season.The main reason Drogba didn't come under scrutiny was because the Chelsea team he was in was very solid.They weren't scoring a whole lot but they weren't conceding many goals which put less emphasis on scoring.For example in drogba's first season at Chelsea, they scored 71, conceded just 15 whilst keeping 25 clean sheets and finished first. In his second season, Chelsea scored 72,conceded 22,kept 20 clean sheets and again finished first.Compared to this Current Chelsea team, this season in the League they are currently languishing in 9th place, have scored 62 and conceded a whopping 51 whilst keeping only 6 clean sheets in 31 games.This a weaker Chelsea side compared to the other previous teams especially when it comes to their defence and as a team if you have a weak defense, then your attackers need to score more because you will conceded a lot of goals so scoring more will improve your chances of winning games like Marcelo Bielsa's Leeds team in the 2020 2021 season.They weren't shutting out teams but they were scoring a lot of goals which helped them win games but here is a situation Chelsea aren't scoring enough.61 goals in 31 league games under normal circumstance is a good input but due to the number of goals they conceding there is added pressure on the attack to score even more and if the attackers can't do that, that  is were the massive criticism comes in Apart from Cole Palmer,no Chelsea player has scored more than 10 league goals Nicholas Jackson, despite being the main striker has managed only 9 goals so far which is not enough when you put into context the goals this Chelsea Side are conceding.
